The Single Girl’s Guide to Surviving Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  In my previous post (which if you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out here – it’s a Valentine’s Day Playlist) I promised that I would do a guide on how to survive Valentine’s Day if you’re single, and here it finally is:

  1. Treat Yourself

You most definitely do not need someone in your life to buy you chocolate / flowers or that cute fluffy teddy bear you’ve been eyeing every time you find yourself in the store.  Go out and spoil yourself a little by buying those things for yourself!

  1. Pamper Yourself

Valentine’s Day is all about love and that includes showing yourself some love as well, which is why that pamper session you’ve been putting off because you feel  slightly guilty about spending money on pampering yourself should definitely become a reality! Go out and get yourself a massage, a manicure / pedicure or even all of those things!  You can even have an affordable pamper session at home by taking a nice long bubble bath and pouring yourself some of that wine you’ve been saving for that special occasion.

  1. Stay away from social media

Your social media will DEFINITELY be flooded with declarations of love, mushy pics of couples happily in love and people posting about what they got on valentine’s day from that special someone.  If you’re one of those people that might get upset or sad by all of this, I would highly recommend staying away from social media for the day.

  1. Have a night out with all your single friends

*All the single ladies, All the single ladies, All the single ladies, now put your hands up!* If you’ve read this, go back and sing it out loud, come on I dare you! Makes you feel a little bit better doesn’t it? Now gather all of your single friends and have a fun night out on the town.

  1. Have a movie / series marathon

There is no better way forgetting that it’s Valentine’s Day then by binge – watching all of your favorite series or movies.  I’d suggest staying away from the romance genre and opting for something a little lighter like some comedy.

  1. Don’t text your ex

Even though you might be feeling a little lonely on this day, texting your ex is a big NO – NO.  There is obviously a reason why you’re not together anymore and you don’t want to make the same mistake twice just because you’re feeling a bit lonely.

  1. Just Another Day

In those moments that you’re feeling extra single, remember that it’s literally just another day! You’ve made it this far being single, so what’s stopping you now?!

  1. Be grateful

Be grateful that you’re single and don’t have the extra stress of having to figure out what to buy your partner or feeling the pressure of making sure that they have the most magical night ever.

I absolutely hope that these tips will be helpful in making your day special and remember it is after all you that is in charge of your happiness and how you spend not only Valentine’s Day, but each day of your life as well.  With that said, I will leave you with this quote by Carrie Bradshaw: “Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you, now it means you’re pretty sexy and you’re taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.”

But that is it for this post…until next time!

xoxo Lilanie
