Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Review

If you google things to do in Abu Dhabi, a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque will probably be one of the first activities to pop up; and with good reason, the place is absolutely STUNNING! I’ve had the amazing opportunity to visit it both during the day and at night and I thought I would share my experience with you guys.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is situated on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street in Abu Dhabi and was conceived by the first president of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and marks his final resting place.  You can definitely not miss this work of art, as it can be spotted from afar and will capture your attention at first glance.

Cost and Visiting Hours

There is no entrance fee for the mosque, it is completely free.  The mosque is also open for visitation by non-Muslims.  The visiting hours are from 9am to 10 pm (with last admission being 9:30 pm) from Saturday to Thursday and it is closed on Friday mornings for tourism activities and reopens after 4:30 pm.

Interesting Facts

  • It is the largest mosque in the UAE.
  • The walls and ceiling of the mosque are entirely made up of white marble.

  • This stunning structure can accommodate more than 40 000 people, as it has the area of approximately 5 football fields.
  • The mosque consists of 82 domes of seven different sizes.
  • The main prayer hall houses the world’s largest hand – knotted carpet.

The chandelier in the picture below is the largest in the mosque and weighs approximately 12 tons.

Tips when visiting

Even though the mosque has become a very popular tourist attraction, it is still a place of worship for Muslims and should therefore still be respected.  You therefore have to dress appropriately when visiting the mosque.  If you are a woman, they will however provide you with an abaya at the entrance, which is free of charge and comes in two different colors: a bluish grey and a brown.  You will also be required to remove your shoes when visiting and they provide these rack like storage areas where you can keep your shoes.  When visiting, you will also get the chance to see the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, but photos of the tomb are not allowed and the guards will call you out and ask you to delete the picture.  When taking pictures also try to keep your poses simple, as the guards will call you out on that as well.  They literally asked someone to delete a picture they took, as they were posing with their hands on their hips.  I would also advise you to go during the night, as the place becomes even more magical.  If you do decide to visit this majestical place, do be prepared to share it with many other visitors and try to be patient, as you will most probably have to wait a while to get that picture where no one is awkwardly hovering or photo – bombing your picture.  The place was packed during both times that I went (during the afternoon and at night).  If you want less crowds, going when the place opens at 9 am would then probably be the ideal time to go.

If you haven’t visited yet, then it should definitely be added to your bucket list, as the architecture, stunning views, intricate details and the fact that it is completely free definitely make this place worth the visit.

But that is it for this post, until next time!

Life Update

Hello beautiful people! I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus and if you follow me on my social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), you would probably have seen that I’ve moved to another part of the world! That’s right, you read correctly, I’ve up and moved to the United Arab Emirates; Abu Dhabi to be more precise. I’ve been here for about 4 months now and have not had much time to blog anymore.  I’ve started a new job here in the UAE, where I basically only have 1 off day, which does not give me much time to blog, but I will be trying my level best to get back to it, because I honestly miss writing! This post is basically just to inform you guys that I have not disappeared off the face of the earth and that I will be back soon with some new content, which will include sharing my experiences here in the UAE and to ask you to be patient with me.  You can however follow my journey on Instagram in the meantime, as I’ve shared some of my experiences on there.

But that is it for this post!

Until next time!

Fall / Autumn Essentials

Hello there!  I’ve been M.I.A again and I do apologize.  I have been extremely busy with a new chapter of my life (something which I cannot reveal just yet) and it has been taking up a lot of my time.  I will however share the news with you as soon as I can.  As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, we are experiencing fall / autumn here in Namibia at the moment and I thought I would share with you some of the essentials that you’ll need during the season.

Delicious tasting hot beverage

I’ve become obsessed with Chai Latte ever since my sister introduced it to me.  We usually get it from Mugg n Bean and it is definitely an essential during autumn.  If you want something that lasts a bit longer (in the sense that you can make it every day) and tastes just as delicious, definitely get yourself a pack of Hug In a Mug.  It comes with 10 sachets and they also come in different flavors; I highly suggest trying the Hazelnut Cappuccino.

Dark Lipsticks

Autumn means going darker with your makeup looks, which means darker lips.  Dark lipsticks are therefore an essential if you want to recreate those Instagram worthy autumn makeup looks.

Dark Nail polish

During autumn darker nails are also an essential to fit in with the autumn mood and to match your autumn inspired outfits.  Dark blues, maroon, black and plum/purple colors are some of the colors you can go for during the season.

Scented Candles

An absolute must have during the season!

Go-to jacket

A cute go-to jacket that will go with basically all or majority of your outfits is definitely an autumn essential, especially during those chillier days.  A denim jacket is a good go-to piece, as they will not let you break out in a sweat or make you feel too hot when wearing them, but will still keep you warm during those chillier days and they can be matched with almost any outfit.

Those that know me know that I’m a sucker for some cute boots.  These are an autumn essential, as you want to keep your feet warm when it does start to get chillier, plus styling an outfit with boots just creates the perfect autumn look.

Cute Comfy Sweater and Sweatpants

During the autumn & winter months I tend to go into hibernation, which means chilling inside and catching up on some series or curling up with a good book and that usually requires a comfy sweater and some sweatpants.

Fall Movies / Series / Books

This one definitely relates to the previously mentioned essential, as you need a good book / tv series/ movie to curl up with.  I will be posting a list of suggestions of series / movies to check out that are perfect for autumn, so definitely be on the lookout for that post.

Fall Music Playlist

During any season and for every occasion a dope playlist is definitely an essential.  Head on over to my previous post here, to check out my playlist featuring some cool autumn inspired tunes.

Pretty Scarves

Scarves can be used for those chillier days, but they can also act as an accessory in order to spice up an outfit.

But that is it for this post; do let me know what your essentials are during fall / autumn.  Also, do follow me on Instagram, I will be trying to post more content there more often.

Until next time!
