Old School Glam Prom Makeup Look

This is my third and final prom inspired look and this is definitely my favorite out of the three looks that I created.  I like to call this the old school glam look, mostly because of the red lips.  This makeup look is therefore for my girls that likes a bold lip.   I really hope this little prom series on my blog has been useful in helping you make your day extra special.  I do have a prom tips and tricks post, as well as two other prom inspired makeup looks on the blog, so be sure to check those out as well.  I kept my face makeup the same, so I did not include it in this post, but you can check it out here.

The eye makeup

For this look I used the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette.

  • I started off by applying my concealer all over my eyelid, just to give it an even color.
  •  I then applied a beige color all over my eyelid, just to set the concealer.
  • I then went in with this light brown shade and applied it in the crease and worked it towards the inner corner, as well as the outer corner of my eyelid.
  • Next I applied a darker brown color and again applied it in the crease as well as the inner and outer corners of my eyelid.
  • I then took this plum color and applied it to the same areas.  You also just want to make sure to blend everything out as you apply it.
  • I then went in with this copper color and also applied it to the same areas.  This time I focused more towards the center of the eyelid.
  • To finish the look I applied a little bit of this shimmery color on the center of my eyelid and simply used my finger to dab it on the eyelid.
  • I then applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara to my top and bottom lashes and took the darker brown shade and placed that under my lash line.

The gorgeous red color on my lips is the Wet n Wild lipstick Cherry Frost Silk Finish Lipstick.

This is the finished makeup look:

And that concludes this makeup look, as well as the little prom series I have been going on, on my blog.  I might do it again next year and include some hairstyles as well. Do let me know if that is something you would be interested in seeing.

Thank you so much for stopping by…until next time!

Soft and Elegant Prom Makeup Look

I am back with another prom makeup look and this time around I went for a softer look.  This is for my girls that don’t want too much going on, on the eyes, but still want a bit of glitter, because it is after all prom – the time to get all glitzy and glamour (even if it is just a little bit).  I did a previous post on tips and tricks for prom, so if you haven’t already, be sure to go check it out here.  I did not include the face makeup this time around, because it is the same routine as in my previous prom makeup post which you can find here.

The eye makeup

For this look I used the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette.

  • I started off by applying some of the Essence Stay Natural Concealer as a base to ensure the makeup stays and to have an even tone over the eyelid.
  • I then applied a beige color all over my lid just to set the concealer.
  • Next I applied this light brown shade all over my lid and focused it on the outer corner of my eye and took it up to my crease, as well as the inner corners of my eyes. Be sure to blend this in to make sure the color is diffused.
  • I then went in with a darker brown color and this I applied on the same areas as the light brown shade.
  • To add more definition I added this black color also on the same areas and blended everything together.
  • I finished off the look by applying this shimmery color on the eyelid.
  • I then applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara (I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I am going to say it again, I LOVE this mascara.) You can absolutely add some false eyelashes; I decided to just add the mascara.

For my lips I used the Essence Long lasting Lipstick in the shade Barely There.

And this is the finished makeup look:

Purple Smokey Eye Prom Makeup Look

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted something and I apologize! I have been super busy with assignments. You might have also noticed that I did not put up a July Favorites post and that is because I will be combining my July and August favorites in one post. Today’s post will be a prom inspired makeup look, which for those of you who are past the prom stage can use it for a fancy outing or special event.  I love this look, because it is simple to do and it works very well with brown eyes.  Be sure to check out my previous post as well on my tips for Prom here  As always the first part will consist of the face makeup and the second part will cover the eye makeup.

  1. So I started off by priming my face with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.
  2. I then applied my concealer, I find that applying it before the foundation works better to cover up my blemishes and I used the Essence Stay Natural Concealer in the shade Soft Beige. I just apply this under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, on my forehead and on any blemishes I have.
  3. I then applied my foundation and used the L’Oréal True Match Foundation in the shade Sand. I love this foundation, because it is very lightweight.  You also want to make sure not to use a foundation that has a SPF in it, because it usually creates flashback in photos.
  4. To set my foundation I used the Yardley Absolute Translucent Loose Powder.
  5. I then did my contour with the Absolute New York Pro Contour Palette and used the same palette to highlight my face.
  6. To finish off the look, I went in with the Jordana Blush Powder in the shade Rose Silk.

The Eye Makeup

To create this look, I used the SMOKY Palette, the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette and the Essence Quattro (Denim 4.0) Eye shadow Palette.

  • I started off by filling in my eyebrows with the Smudge Brow Pencil in the shade Light Brown.
  • I used this brown color from the ELF Palette as a base color and placed it all over my eyelid.
  • I then used this purple shade from the Essence Palette and placed this on the outer corner of my eyelids.

In the inner corner of my eyelid I used this shimmery silver color from the SMOKY Palette and focused it towards the center of my eyelid.

I then used the purple color from the Essence Palette and placed it under my lower lash line and the silver color from the SMOKY Palette towards the inner corner of my eye.

For mascara I used the Essence Lash Princess Mascara. I did not apply any false lashes, but that is totally optional, I think it would look great with this look as well.

For lips I used NYC Lipstick in the shade Petal and topped it off with the Essence XXXL Lip Gloss in the shade True Love and I  did not want to go too dark with the lips, since the eyes are already dramatic, but this is totally optional as well.

Prom Tips and Tricks

So it is almost that exciting time of the year again (Well in Namibia at least) – PROM!! Which is why I decided to do a prom post…I know it’s a bit late, but you can still use some of these to make your day extra special.  For those of us living in Namibia, we only get one prom (or as we call it: Matric Farewell) so you need to make sure you SLAY and these tips will definitely help you do that.  For those like myself whose prom days are long gone (Gosh do I feel old!), you can still use some of these tips and tricks for everyday use or whenever a special occasion comes up.  So without further ado, here are some of the tips and tricks that I wish I had known about when I went to prom, I hope you find them useful.

  1. Stash a few bobby pins at the bottom of your purse

Trust me you’ll thank me later.   You can never have too many bobby pins and just in case your hair comes loose, you’ll have extra bobby pins to put it in place.

2. Spritz your bobby pins with hairspray

Make sure to spritz your bobby pins with hairspray and tuck it into your updo. The hairspray makes the pin hold to your hair for extra reinforcement ensuring your hair stays in place.

3. Double up on hairspray

Make sure to double up on hairspray.  The secret to getting an updo to last all night is to apply hairspray before and after styling.  This is probably one of the few things I got right on my prom night and definitely works!

4. Pat on Vaseline for long – lasting scents

To smell irresistible all night long pat on a tiny amount of Vaseline to areas you would normally spritz, such as your neck and the back of your wrists. The Vaseline gives the perfume something to hold on to, so it will linger all night long.  I only recently heard about this hack and decided to give it a go, even though it does sound weird, it does work.

5. Put that toothbrush to work

Remove any dry flakes on your lips by brushing them with a toothbrush. I find that in doing this, it also makes your lips look a bit plumper.

6. Help your mani dry fast with cold air

Blast your mani with a shot of cold air to help it dry faster. You do not have time to spare when you’re getting ready, so get in front of your AC or use the cool button on your blow-dryer. I literally do this all the time, mostly because I’m just impatient, but it absolutely works!

7. Break in your shoes

Definitely break in your shoes before the time. You do not want to be uncomfortable the whole night. Also learn to walk in your shoes before the time; you do not want to fall flat on your face on your prom day.

8. Avoid uncomfortable shoes

DO NOT wear uncomfortable shoes. Those 7 inch heels might look hot right now, but you’re definitely going to regret it when you’re trying to keep one foot in front of the other.

9. Get your pose on

If you’re awkward in front of the camera, definitely try out some poses and angles before the time, because it’s your special day, which for some only happens once and you definitely want to take as many pictures as possible.

10. Trial run your makeup and hair

Definitely do a trial run of your makeup and hair when you’re doing it yourself to avoid any stressful situations and to make sure you look flawless on your special day.

11. Have FUN!!

The most important tip I have for you though is to have fun! Prom is meant to be a fun event, so try not to stress too much and enjoy every part of it.

A little throwback of my Prom (Matric Farewell) Day, which was in 2011.

Winter Makeup Look 2

I did another winter makeup look and decided to share it with you guys.  As pointed out in my previous makeup post I am no professional makeup artist, I have just been loving experimenting with makeup, so I am still learning.  The first part will consist of my full face makeup (which I switched up a bit from the last post) and the second part will feature the eye makeup.

  1. I start off by priming my face with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.
  2. I then go in with the Avon Ideal Flawless Concealer Stick in the shade Neutralising Green to cover up my blemishes and I have found that applying my concealer under my foundation works better to cover up my blemishes.
  3. I then go in with the Essence Stay Natural Concealer in the shade Soft Beige just to ensure that my blemishes are covered up as much as possible.
  4. I also switched up my foundation and went for the Yardley Whipped Matte Mouse Foundation in the shade Natural Beige and I just apply this with a foundation brush.
  5. I then set my foundation with the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Pressed Powder in the shade Natural Buff.
  6. I decided not to do any contouring and finished off the look with the Jordana Blush Powder in the shade Rose Silk, which I just apply on the apple’s of my cheeks.

The Eye Makeup

So for this eye look I actually used three eyeshadow palettes ( I know, I know irritating much?) The colors that I needed for this look were however found in these three makeup palettes, but if you have all the colors in one palette absolutely go for it!!  The palettes I used are the HD Nude (03) Eyeshadow Palette, the ELF Little Black Beauty Book (Warm Edition) Palette and the SMOKY palette (I have no idea what brand this is from) I got it from Five Below when I was in the US.

  • I started with my eyebrows and filled them in with the Smudge Brow Pencil in the shade Light Brown.
  • For a base color I used this light brown color from the ELF Palette and just placed this all over my eyelid.
  • I then used this dark brown color from the HD Nude Palette and placed this on the   outer corner of my eyelid, as well as in the crease.
  • I then applied this creamy nude color from the SMOKY Palette and applied that on my eyelids, focusing it towards the center of the eyelid.
  • As a highlight I used this white shimmery color and placed that on the corner of my eye, as well as onto the brow bone.
  • Next up I used a lighter brown shade from the HD Nude Palette and placed this in the crease, as well as extending it beyond the crease.
  • I then used the dark brown color from the HD Nude Palette and place it under my lower lash line.
  • For mascara I used the Essence Lash Princess Mascara.

For my lips I used an Avon Glazewear Lip gloss in a purplish maroon color that I made a bit lighter and set my makeup with the NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray.
