Pretty in Pink – Spring Look

Spring, the season of pretty flowers and hay fever is FINALLY in Namibia, can I get a WHOOP WHOOP?  I love spring, mostly because of the pretty flowers that can be seen everywhere and the floral and brightly colored fashion items. I love colorful and vibrant colors for spring and usually opt for colors such as pink, coral and nudes.  For this look I decided to pair this pretty pink Aztec print dress with these orangey brown heels.  I would probably wear this as a daytime look, but add a brown leather jacket and you can instantly turn it into a nighttime look. P.S you might notice that my hair is very short and that is because I FINALLY decided to do the big chop after 1 year of being natural, but that is a post for another day and I will try to get that up as soon as possible.

Prom Tips and Tricks

So it is almost that exciting time of the year again (Well in Namibia at least) – PROM!! Which is why I decided to do a prom post…I know it’s a bit late, but you can still use some of these to make your day extra special.  For those of us living in Namibia, we only get one prom (or as we call it: Matric Farewell) so you need to make sure you SLAY and these tips will definitely help you do that.  For those like myself whose prom days are long gone (Gosh do I feel old!), you can still use some of these tips and tricks for everyday use or whenever a special occasion comes up.  So without further ado, here are some of the tips and tricks that I wish I had known about when I went to prom, I hope you find them useful.

  1. Stash a few bobby pins at the bottom of your purse

Trust me you’ll thank me later.   You can never have too many bobby pins and just in case your hair comes loose, you’ll have extra bobby pins to put it in place.

2. Spritz your bobby pins with hairspray

Make sure to spritz your bobby pins with hairspray and tuck it into your updo. The hairspray makes the pin hold to your hair for extra reinforcement ensuring your hair stays in place.

3. Double up on hairspray

Make sure to double up on hairspray.  The secret to getting an updo to last all night is to apply hairspray before and after styling.  This is probably one of the few things I got right on my prom night and definitely works!

4. Pat on Vaseline for long – lasting scents

To smell irresistible all night long pat on a tiny amount of Vaseline to areas you would normally spritz, such as your neck and the back of your wrists. The Vaseline gives the perfume something to hold on to, so it will linger all night long.  I only recently heard about this hack and decided to give it a go, even though it does sound weird, it does work.

5. Put that toothbrush to work

Remove any dry flakes on your lips by brushing them with a toothbrush. I find that in doing this, it also makes your lips look a bit plumper.

6. Help your mani dry fast with cold air

Blast your mani with a shot of cold air to help it dry faster. You do not have time to spare when you’re getting ready, so get in front of your AC or use the cool button on your blow-dryer. I literally do this all the time, mostly because I’m just impatient, but it absolutely works!

7. Break in your shoes

Definitely break in your shoes before the time. You do not want to be uncomfortable the whole night. Also learn to walk in your shoes before the time; you do not want to fall flat on your face on your prom day.

8. Avoid uncomfortable shoes

DO NOT wear uncomfortable shoes. Those 7 inch heels might look hot right now, but you’re definitely going to regret it when you’re trying to keep one foot in front of the other.

9. Get your pose on

If you’re awkward in front of the camera, definitely try out some poses and angles before the time, because it’s your special day, which for some only happens once and you definitely want to take as many pictures as possible.

10. Trial run your makeup and hair

Definitely do a trial run of your makeup and hair when you’re doing it yourself to avoid any stressful situations and to make sure you look flawless on your special day.

11. Have FUN!!

The most important tip I have for you though is to have fun! Prom is meant to be a fun event, so try not to stress too much and enjoy every part of it.

A little throwback of my Prom (Matric Farewell) Day, which was in 2011.

But that is it for this post…I really hope you find these tips helpful.

Until next time…

Winter Outfit 2

For this post I decided to do another casual winter look; a little dressier this time as I opted for heels.  This is a day time look, but you can instantly turn it into a nighttime look by adding a pair of black jeans instead of the light blue denims I went for.  We in Namibia are fortunate to not have extremely cold weather conditions during the winter time, which is why I am just wearing a sweater for this look, you can however add a black leather jacket or a black coat to finish off the look.  I absolutely love anything maroon/burgundy especially during the winter time, it is just such a sexy color.

My makeup look is exactly the same as in my winter makeup look, so you can just click here if you’re interested in getting the look.  I did however add a darker lip color, I just feel that it works better with the outfit.  I used a combination of the Avon Glazewear Lipgloss (I have no idea what shade this is in, but it is a purlish maroon color) and the Wet n Wild Lipstick in the shade Wine Room.

  • Sweater – Charlotte Russe
  • Necklace – Charlotte Russe
  • Light Blue Denim Jeans – Charlotte Russe
  • Black Boots – Mr Price

Winter Outfit Look 1

For this post I thought I would share a casual winter outfit idea with you guys.  I love the grey and white color combination for winter, because it creates a softer tone for the winter and is a nice alternative to the typical dark colors you usually find in winter outfits.  The leather jacket also adds a bit of edginess to the outfit.

This look is very simple and casual and I would probably wear it to go see a movie or do some shopping.  Can we also just take a moment to appreciate the beauty of those flowers featuring in my background, I have no idea what they are called, but we’re in winter at the moment and they still seem to be in full bloom (they probably didn’t get the memo).

Outfit details:

  • Grey and white striped sweater – Mr Price
  • Black leather jacket – Legit
  • Grey denim jeans – Legit
  • Converse sneakers – Converse store

For makeup I did a simple smokey eye look, with a pink lip color, which is featured in the outfit looks, but I thought this maroon lip color featured in the pictures below would also work really well with the whole look.

But that’s all for today…until next time
