My Namibian Inspiration

Hello there beautiful people, today I thought I would share a piece with you that I wrote for a competition a while back, which required us to write what inspires us about Namibia.  Unfortunately I did not win the competition, there were some amazing pieces written, but I’m glad that I took part, as it gave me the opportunity to write something other than the stuff that I usually write here on my blog.

It all started with a visit to the stunningly beautiful Fish River Canyon in the southern part of our country.  I was transfixed by this beautiful scenery and amazed that something so beautiful could exist and in our very own country.  I think from that day onward I started to appreciate nature that much more.  So what inspires me about Namibia you ask? – Definitely the beautiful nature.

Namibia probably has one of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets (well in my opinion in any case) and you can’t help but fall in love with it.  It certainly is every photographer’s dream destination.  The thing I love the most about sunrises and sunsets is that this morning’s sunrise doesn’t define itself by yesterday’s sunset – it inspires me to leave yesterday’s problems behind and start each day a new.  It inspires me to appreciate each new day, because you never know what tomorrow is going to hold.  Sunsets are also proof that endings can be beautiful and gives me hope that I might just one day get that fairy tale ending after all.

The high sand dunes that our country is so very well known for gives me hope that I can conquer any problem no matter how big it may be.  I once climbed Dune 7 and getting to the top was so rewarding, it reminded me that no matter how big my problems are, that I am strong enough to conquer them and even though it may be hard work, that the reward in the end will be totally worth the struggle to get to the top.

Over the years I have found that nature has an unbelievable capacity to heal the soul and this I experience every time I go to the coast, there’s just something about the waves that seem to give me a sense of clarity and calmness and I can just sit there and let everything go.  It’s like my very own free psychology session, with the sea seemingly being my “psychologist”.  The following quote so beautifully sums it up: “The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.” – Robert Wyland

Nature has acted as my mentor as well in giving me life lessons, the most important lesson being that things change and that nothing is permanent.  This I have learned through the seasons that come and go, through the Jacaranda plants that bloom and then fall to seed again, the storms that we once in a while experience, after which the sun comes out again.  All of these have inspired me to be patient, to wait it out, as nothing is permanent and has taught me that one day things will change for the better.

The stars shining in the sky inspires me to stay on course and to shine brighter than the rest. It inspires me to be the very best version of myself at all times and teaches me to appreciate and value others, because as the saying goes two stars shine brighter than one.

Namibia is commonly known as the land of endless horizons and it is these very endless horizons that let me know that life is filled with endless possibilities and this inspires me to reach for my dreams, because it lets me know that anything is possible. Then there are the little things in nature such as the animals living harmoniously together that inspire me to appreciate and value relationships with loved ones.

In essence our beautiful Namibian nature has helped me realize that I am just a piece of the puzzle and that life is so much more than just me.

But that is it for this post…until next time!

10 Romantic Movies to watch on Valentine’s Day

The month of roses, chocolates and professing one’s love for the whole world to see is upon us once again, yes folks, I am talking about Valentine’s Day.  As much as Valentine’s Day is (according to society) supposed to be about spending it with your loved one doing romantic things like going on expensive dates, feeding each other expensive chocolate and popping the bubbly, it can also be as simple as throwing on your most comfy PJ’s and cuddling up on the couch to watch some Netflix with your loved one.   If your love life is however like mine, as dry as the Sahara desert, then gather your fellow single gals and have a girl’s night watching some romantic movies.  I have compiled a list of 2017 / 2018 romantic movies that is perfect to watch on Valentine’s Day, you can thank me later.

Crazy Rich Asians

This was without a doubt one of my favorite movies of 2018 and after watching it Singapore was added to my bucket list as one of the top destinations to visit.  The story tells of a Chinese – American woman (Rachel Chu) who falls in love with Nick Young and only later during the relationship finds out that the man she has been dating for about a year is part of one of the wealthiest families in Singapore, which she gets to meet when they attend Nick’s best friend’s wedding.  If you love beautiful travel scenes, romance, a bit of drama and comedy and beautiful wedding scenes, then this movie is definitely a must watch.

To All The Boys I’ve Ever Loved Before

Be ready for some serious eye candy, because Noah Centineo is such a hottie!!  To all the boys I’ve ever loved before is a film adaptation of the book by Jenny Han. The movie features Lara Jean, who has written secret love letters to each of her five crushes, but these letters are not so secret anymore, as they mysteriously end up being mailed to each of her five crushes, which causes her world, well mostly her love life to turn upside down.  This movie is perfect for a galantine’s movie night.

A Star Is Born

Another of my favorites of 2018 and absolutely worth all the hype! I loved the music in this movie and ever since I watched it, the soundtrack has been on repeat.  Jackson (Bradley Cooper) is an established musician, who falls in love with Ally (Lady Gaga) and helps her career take off.  It is however not all sunshine and roses, as Jackson continuously fights his inner demons and their relationship is tested.

Nappily Ever After

Violet Jones, who is played by the gorgeous Sanaa Lathan, is a perfectionist in all areas of her life, but especially when it comes to her love life.  This all however changes when a trip to the hairdresser takes a turn for the worst and she loses the one thing she thinks defines who she is – her hair and her whole life begins to unravel.  If you love feel – good movies about women’s beauty standards, with a dose of romance then make sure to add this to your must watch list.

 Everything, Everything

This movie tells the love story of 18 year old Maddy (Amandla Stenberg), who because of an illness is confined to the protection of her hermetically sealed home and Olly, the boy that moves in next door.  I will not spoil the movie by writing too much about it, all I can say is once you’re done reading this, do yourself a favor and go add this to your list!

Beauty and the Beast

Tale as old as time; I of course had to throw a classic love story into the mix.  The movie is a remake of the original Beauty and the Beast, with Emma Watson playing the perfect Belle and it kept true to the original, giving feelings of nostalgia, but at the same time bringing something new to the table.

The Kissing Booth

This movie tells of Elle (Joey King), who has a crush on her best friend’s brother, who also happens to be the hottest boy in high school.  If you like teenage rom – coms, you will most likely enjoy this one.

I’ll just start off by saying that this movie is based on a true story.  I don’t know about you guys, but knowing a movie is based on a true story usually peaks my interest.  I absolutely loved their love story, but the movie does feature a tragedy, which happens when Tami (Shailene Woodley) and Richard (Sam Claflin) sail directly into a hurricane and their survival story is depicted as well.

Where Hands Touch

This movie takes us back to the Hitler regime, specifically the Holocaust and shows the forbidden love story of Leyna (Amandla Stenberg), who is the daughter of a white German mother and a black African father and Lutz (George MacKay) who is a member of the Hitler Youth.

Set It Up

I love rom-coms and I found myself laughing out loud more than once during this one.  Two assistants who are overworked and underpaid find themselves in desperate need of a break from the office; hence they come up with a master plan to set up their bosses to fall in love.

But that is it for this post, let me know if you decide to watch any of the movies mentioned.

Until next time!

New Year, New Me?

(Image: Pinterest)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that this year is filled with love, laughter, brightness and hope and that you are able to accomplish everything that you set out to do this year!

It is that time of the year again, where New Year’s resolutions are made and “new year, new me” posts fill up social media outlets.  I personally like to set goals for myself, because ticking off items on your goals list is one of the most rewarding feelings, it gives you something to strive towards, encourages you to be your best self and gives you direction in your everyday life. I am however not going to be joining in the “new year, new me” movement, because let’s be honest, I will probably remain the same person that I have always been, I can only hope for self-growth and strive to always be the best version of myself.

As I mentioned, I like to set goals for myself, which include some goals for this blog and therefore I thought I would share them with you, hopefully these can help you to set some of your own and will also help to keep me accountable for achieving them.  I have listed some of the goals I would like to achieve for 2019 below:

Blog and Social Media

  • Blog more often – In 2018 I definitely neglected this blog more than I would have liked to, but I am definitely going to get into the habit of blogging more often this year.
  • Have a posting schedule – This one goes hand in hand with the above mentioned goal and will definitely help me to blog more often, as having a posting schedule, will hold me accountable for having content ready to be posted.
  • Have 250 followers on my blog – I am currently on 46 followers, which is why I am planning on creating more content and being more consistent with the blog this year in order to grow my audience.
  • Start a YouTube Channel – I do actually have a YouTube account, with no content whatsoever, as I have been putting it off for the longest time, because of fear of what other people may think and also because vlogging in Namibia has not been a very popular thing, but I would really like to take that leap and actually start creating content on YouTube as well.

  • Travel to Thailand – Thailand has been a dream destination for my sister and I for the longest time and I feel that 2019 is finally the year to make that dream a reality!
  • Explore more of Namibia – I will be moving back to Namibia this year and would definitely love to travel and explore more of Namibia and share those experiences with you guys.

  • Live a healthier lifestyle – This involves exercising regularly, eating more healthy food and drinking more water.

  • Start a business – I would absolutely love to start a business of my own and hopefully 2019 is going to be the year that it happens.
  • Get my driver’s license – Yes, I am 25 and I still do not know how to drive a car and yes I most definitely want to get my license and not be too dependent on others to drive me around everywhere I need to go.
  • Read at least 12 books for the year – I am an absolute book nerd, reading is one of my passions and yet I have not found any time recently to do any reading, but I am going to challenge myself this year to read at least one book per month.
  • Volunteer – I would love to take part in more volunteer work this year, whether it be giving donations, raising funds for a cause or just generally helping others. If you know of any volunteer activities I can take part in, in Namibia, do let me know.
  • Learn a new language – I’ve always loved hearing people speak Spanish and have taken a few classes, but I would love to speak the language fluently.

But that is it for this post; do let me know what some of your resolutions / goals are for the New Year.

Until next time!

Life Update

Hello beautiful people! I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus and if you follow me on my social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram), you would probably have seen that I’ve moved to another part of the world! That’s right, you read correctly, I’ve up and moved to the United Arab Emirates; Abu Dhabi to be more precise. I’ve been here for about 4 months now and have not had much time to blog anymore.  I’ve started a new job here in the UAE, where I basically only have 1 off day, which does not give me much time to blog, but I will be trying my level best to get back to it, because I honestly miss writing! This post is basically just to inform you guys that I have not disappeared off the face of the earth and that I will be back soon with some new content, which will include sharing my experiences here in the UAE and to ask you to be patient with me.  You can however follow my journey on Instagram in the meantime, as I’ve shared some of my experiences on there.

But that is it for this post!

Until next time!
