Current Favorites

Hello there beautiful people! I haven’t done a monthly favorites in such a long time (I skipped two months to be precise – oops!) and I therefore thought that I would do a current favorites instead.  So without further ado, here are some of the stuff I have currently been loving.

Sam Smith’s Album – The Thrill of It All

Sam Smith is FINALLY back with a new album and I am SUPER excited!! I can literally listen to him all day, every day.  As always, all of his songs are just so damn good, but I do have a few favs that have been on repeat since the album came out.  These include Burning (do go listen to the live version on YouTube here, trust me you’ll thank me), No Peace ft YEBBA (Two soulful voices on one track – be ready for some serious goosebumps), Too Good at Goodbyes, Palace, Pray, The Thrill of it All and One Day at a Time (this is such a beautiful song).

Demi Lovato’s Album – Simply Complicated

I’ve been a fan of Demi Lovato since her appearance on Camp Rock.  It has been interesting to watch not only her musical journey, but her personal journey as well.  I love her new sound, because she has such an amazing voice, which is showcased more in this new album, there is also more soul and emotion, which I’m all for.  She has also released a documentary of her life journey, focusing on her struggles with her eating disorder, as well as her alcohol and substance abuse, which you can check out here.  Some of my favorite tracks from the album include: Sorry not Sorry, Sexy Dirty Love, Daddy Issues, You Don’t Do it for Me Anymore, Only Forever and Smoke and Mirrors.  This girl is amazing, so do yourself a favor and go listen to this album, you won’t regret it!

CNCO ft Little Mix – Reggaeton Lento

Sevyn Streeter – Before I do

Sabrina Claudio – Wait

Jidenna – Boomerang

Rotimi ft Kranium – Want more

MiC LOWRY – Don’t tempt me

Rhyon –Gone

LA Girl HD Pro Concealer

This is definitely one of my all-time favorite products.  The product comes in a 0.28 OZ (8g) squeeze tube with an attached brush applicator.  It has a creamy consistency and is so easy to blend.  I love this product, because it does an amazing job of camouflaging the darkness under my eyes, as well as skin imperfections and has minimal creasing when set with some powder.  It is also super affordable (you can find it at Dischem for N$ 59.95) and travel friendly.  The only thing which might not be everyone’s cup of tea is the applicator, which can be a bit tricky to get the right amount of product out, so you need to be careful and strategically squeeze out the right amount of product, as you don’t want too much product being wasted.

RK by Kiss Nail Polish in Marshmallow

This color is absolutely beautiful and the main reason why this made the list.  It’s the perfect spring / summer color and I can pair it up with any outfit.   I love the consistency of this nail polish, it is not runny, not too thick; just a perfect in-between that allows it to apply very smoothly.  Because of the light color of this nail polish, I do however apply two coats of nail polish just to make sure I get the best color.

Nivea Body Lotion (Vanilla and Almond Oil)

I’ve always been a fan of the Nivea Body Lotions and usually use the one with Shea Butter and when I saw that they came out with a new product infused with vanilla and almond oil, I knew I had to try it out.  It smells absolutely amazing and is not sticky or greasy at all.  It also leaves your skin feeling super soft and radiant and is another affordable product, which you can get for N$ 48.45 at Dischem or N$ 49.95 at Clicks, which is definitely a bargain, as you get a 400 ml bottle for that price.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer

This product is a clear – jelly, silicone – based primer that comes in very pretty packaging – it comes in a teal and turquoise tube, with hot pink writing.  I love this primer because it is lightweight, blends easily, it is non – comedogenic, which means that it does not clog the pores, it is travel friendly and it is a pore – blurring primer that leaves your skin with a smooth finish.  You do however only need the tiniest amount, as it can sometimes give a bit of an oily feel, especially if you have oily skin.  You can get this product at Clicks for N$ 94.95.

Essence Volume Stylist 18h Curl and Hold Mascara

I have finally decided to try something other than the Essence Lash Princess Mascara (which if you have followed me for a while, you would know is one of my favorite mascaras).  The Essence Volume Stylist Mascara contains micro – styling waxes for voluminous and curved lashes and is also made up of a fully loaded paddle brush.  The formula is not too wet or dry; it has a nice, deep dark black color and does not irritate my eyes.  I mostly love this mascara because it adds length, volume and curl to my lashes and gives it a beautiful dramatic false lash effect, which I definitely need, as I do not wear false eyelashes and can we just take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous the packaging is?  The only thing I do not like about this product is that the brush is quite big, which does make the tube a bit messy and also makes it difficult to use on the lower lash line, which is why I just use this on my upper lash line.  I can’t find the price for the product on either Dischem or Clicks’ Website, but if I remember correctly it was in the N$ 40 – N$ 55 price range.

Pond’s Pimple Clear Face Wash and Leave-on Expert Clearing Gel

Both products contain Thymo – T Essence and Salicylic acid, which are both known to prevent pimples. The Pond’s Pimple Clear Face Wash has a thick, creamy consistency, while the Clearing Gel, as the name suggests has a gel – like consistency.  I love the packaging on these products  and it has been a favorite as it has a fresh aroma and removes every trace of dirt and oil from the skin, making your skin feel squeaky clean and refreshed and I have definitely noticed the reduction of pimples on my skin.  Together these products will definitely make a difference on your skin.  You can find both these products for N$ 44.95 at Dischem and at Clicks the Facewash (100 ml) is N$ 42.95 and the Clearing Gel is N$ 35.95.

If you love drama filled series like myself, you will definitely enjoy this series.  The characters in the series are based on the characters from Archie Comics.

Black Choker

I’ve had this choker for a while and recently started wearing it again, which made me realize once again how pretty awesome it is.  It has this black lace detail with a little pearl pendant at the front, which I love, as it gives it a bit of a feminine touch.

I recently stumbled upon the Fruit Chutney flavored Jumping Jack popcorn and I am in love! This tastes SO FREAKING GOOD!!

But that is it for this post, really hope you enjoyed it, do let me know in the comments what your current favorites are.

Until next time!

xoxo Lilanie

July and August Favorites

Does anyone else feel that time is just racing towards the end of the year? I can’t believe we’re already finding ourselves in September, it’s crazy! As promised though, this post will cover my July & August favorites. I do hope you enjoy it!

So I will only be talking about a few of these, as the list is pretty long as you can see and I do not want to make this blog post any longer than it needs to be.

  • Wale ft Major Lazer, Wizkid & Dua Lipa – My Love (Usa + Africa + UK = FIRE!! This is such a great collaboration.  I love the beat of this song, because it has an African feel to it, but you can clearly hear Major Lazer’s influence as well.  I also just absolutely love Dua Lipa’s voice!!)
  • Chris Brown – Questions (This song is absolute FIRE!! I love reggaeton music and this song has a little bit of a reggaeton feel to it.  The music video is also just LIT!  You can also hear Kevin Lyttle’s Turn me on featured in the song.)
  • Fifth Harmony new album: I LOVE their new vibe; I’ve literally been playing this album every day since its release.  Some of my favorite tracks include: Bridges, Angel, He like that, Don’t say you love me and Messy.

Beauty / Hair

  • Auntie Jackie’s Curls and Coils “Curl La La” Curl Custard

This product smells soooo yummy, I love the purplish color of it and I absolutely love the way it makes my hair feel.  I use it with the Aunt Jackie’s “Knot on my watch” Instant Detangling Therapy, which I mentioned in my May Favorites and it makes my hair super soft and so easy to deal with.  I definitely want to try out some more products in this range.

  • L’Oreal True Match Foundation

I love that this foundation is lightweight, easily blendable, gives good coverage (I usually just use two pumps) and is not cakey on my skin.

  • Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in the shade Cherry Frost

I used this in my Old School Glam Prom Makeup Look, which you can check out here.  I LOVE this color, it’s such a gorgeous red shade and I’m excited to create more looks with this lipstick for spring and summer.  It’s also one of those hydrating lipsticks, which is definitely a bonus.

  • Avon Silky Soft Musk Perfume

I am a huge fan of musky smells and I can just not get enough of this perfume, it smells so good and has been my go to perfume since I got it, which was quite a while ago and I have no idea why I didn’t feature it in a favorites post before.  The packaging does not look like much, but don’t let that put you off, because it is definitely worth the buy.

Favorite Movie

*Beauty and the Beast

I know, I know, I’m super late to the party, but I haven’t really had much time to actually watch movies, but I FINALLY decided to set some time aside to watch this much talked about movie.  I absolutely loved it!! Emma Watson also just makes the perfect Belle.

Favorite Series

I haven’t actually read the book yet, something which I absolutely still intend on doing, but I just had to watch the series which came out on Netflix, as I wanted to see what all the hype was about.  There has been mixed opinions about this series, but I actually liked it.

*The House of Sleep by  Jonathan Coe

*Bar One Chocolate Bar

I don’t know what it is, but I have just been loving the Bar One chocolate Bar lately.  It’s just so yummy!!

I love this gorgeous Paris themed phone case.  I’ve had it for a while now and I have no idea why I’ve never used it before.  I got it from Wish when I was in the US and I can unfortunately not get any more as they don’t ship to Namibia, they do however ship to South Africa,so do go check out their site, they have some pretty phone cases for very affordable prices.

But that is it for this post, thank you for stopping by…until next time.

Liebster Award

I’ve been MIA again and it’s probably going to keep on happening until this semester of Uni is over, because it has just been taking over my life.  I will however try to post whenever I get a chance.  I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award by the gorgeous Fadwa from Helloworldbreakoutgirl, a beauty, fashion, travel and lifestyle blogger hailing from Cape Town, South Africa.  Do check out her blog, it’s pretty awesome!

Rules of the award:

  • The nominated blogger must acknowledge who has nominated them and also share their links.
  • Answer the 11 questions that they have been asked.
  • Nominate 11 more bloggers whose blog they recommend.
  • Ask 11 questions that they would like those bloggers to answer.
  • Let the bloggers they nominated know that they’ve been nominated.

The Questions:

What make-up hacks changed your life?

Highlighting the inner corners of my eyes has been a lifesaver for those days you feel and look like a zombie.  It helps to open up the eyes and makes the eyes pop.

What inspired you to start blogging?

As cliché as it might sound, I started my blog as a creative outlet, I love being creative and blogging allows me to do exactly that.  The whole process of coming up with new blog posts and being able to share it with others is pretty exciting.

What is your number one Holy Grail makeup item?

At the moment it is the Essence Eyelash Princess Mascara.

Who is your favorite beauty YouTuber?

I have more than one actually, at the moment my favorites include Tess Christine and Kalyn Nicholson.

Any tips on perfecting a cut crease?

I haven’t quite perfected the cut crease just yet, but as soon as I do, you will be the first to hear about it.

What do you feel is the number one mistake newbie bloggers make?

I’m still a newbie blogger myself, seeing that I only started my blog about 4 months ago, but I do feel that when starting out one always tends to compare oneself with other more established bloggers, which I feel is the most common mistake not only newbie bloggers make, but bloggers who have been in the game a while as well.  My advice would be to concentrate on your own blogging journey and remember why you started blogging in the first place, even though it may be hard sometimes to avoid.

Any tips for taking the perfect flat lay picture for beauty reviews?

Pinterest is definitely your friend when trying to get inspiration for flat lay pictures; I also find that adding flowers to flat lay pictures instantly makes it look so much better and prettier.

How long does your daily make-up routine take?

I’d say about 30 minutes, but it also depends on the look I’m going for.  I usually also do it in less time if I’m in a rush.

Unicorn or Mermaid?

What is the number one lesson blogging has taught you?

I’m still in the beginning stages of my blogging journey, but will definitely share during the later stage.

What would you choose in a five product only make up look?

Foundation, lipstick/lip gloss, mascara, eyebrow pencil and a translucent powder

I know that this bends the rules a little bit, but I nominate every one that has not yet been nominated to do the Liebster Award.

My questions are:

  1. What are three words that best describe you?
  2. What is your favorite fashion item at the moment?
  3. What TV series are you currently obsessed with?
  4. Who is your favorite Instagrammer?
  5. Any mantras you live by?
  6. What is your biggest fear?
  7. What are 5 items you simply cannot live without?
  8. Where is the one place you really want to travel to?
  9. How would you describe your fashion style?
  10. What is your favorite spring / summer perfume?
  11. What are your favorite beauty items at the moment?

I really hope you got to know me a little better through the questions answered and that you enjoyed this post.

Thank you for stopping by…until next time!

June Favorites

I simply cannot believe that June is already over, what the heck, where is time flying to?? It seriously feels like yesterday when I shared my May favorites with you guys, but anyhoo these are the things that I have been loving for June:

Essence Lipstick in the shade Barely There

This has been my go – to lipstick since I purchased it.  I love everything about it: the packaging (a matte black finish tube with the Essence logo molded on the top of the cap), the color (a warm, nude – pinkish color),the texture (super soft and creamy, which allows it to glide on easily) and the fact that it is long lasting.

Elf Little Black Beauty Book Warm Edition Palette

The colors in this palette are perfect for creating wintery makeup looks and have been my go – to palette for creating my eye looks.  It has 48 colors, so you have a variety to choose from.  I also love the size of it, because it is super easy to carry around, you can literally just pop this in your handbag, without it taking up too much space.

RK by Kiss nail polish in the shade “Shades of Grey”

With winter here, I have been loving this color, I just feel that it goes with most of my winter outfits.  I love the consistency of this nail polish, it is not runny, not too thick, just a perfect in – between that allows it to apply very smoothly.  I have had this nail polish for such a long time now and it hasn’t dried up yet, which is super amazing!

The Bachelorette

It might come as a surprise, but I’m addicted to this show – I mean come on – lots of hunks featured (BONUS!!) and I’m so happy that this season’s Bachelorette is Rachel.  She has such a fun personality and she knows what she wants, plus she has gap teeth (I love this, because I have gap teeth as well) I’m team Peter all the way, he’s such a gentleman, so good looking (drool), they both have gap teeth and they would make such cute babies.

Favorite movie:

Wonder woman

I freaking loved this movie!!  Gal Gadot is such a badass, I don’t think anyone else would have done this role justice and to think she was 5 months pregnant while filming this movie, just makes her that much more of a badass!

Lecrae ft Tori Kelly – I’ll find you (This girl’s voice is like butter and for this song she teamed up with Gospel rapper Lecrae to produce a song that tells you to hold on.  I love these types of inspirational songs and both of them are amazing artists, so it makes for a great collaboration.  More collabs in the future please)

La’Porsha Renae – Breathe ( I’ve been following this girl since her debut on American Idol and like the rest of her fans, I was devastated when she didn’t get the American Idol title.  I am however glad to see that she is putting out some of her own music.

DJ Khaled ft Rihanna & Bryson Tiller – Wild Thoughts (RiRi is back with a bang! This is such a fun summer song and is basically a remake of  Carlos Santana’s classic Maria Maria)

Sigala & Ella Eyre – Came here for love (I’m so obsessed with this girl’s voice and this is also a fun summery song!)

Favorite Instagram Accounts:

Mihlali N

Mihlali Ndamase is a South African Beauty YouTuber and certified makeup artist, but I love her Instagram account because she shares her insanely amazing fashion style on her account as well.  She is such a beauty with a golden heart (she is the co – founder of the Siyasizana Foundation) and her outfits and makeup are always on point!

Favorite YouTube Accounts:

My favorite YouTube account this month is Clothesencounters, which was created by Jenn Im, a Korean –American fashion and beauty vlogger.  She shares tutorials, lifestyle advice, as well as outfit ideas, which I definitely find useful.  I love her outfit videos the most, as it definitely gives you ideas and ways on how to wear items that you would not normally think of pairing together.

Embracing Winter

Winter…oh that dreaded word! I’m not a fan of winter, and those of you that know me, would have heard me declare it about a hundred times.  Winter is however upon us and we have no choice but to embrace it, after all complaining about it won’t make it go away.  For this post I have compiled a list that is dedicated to the not so awful parts about winter, because let’s face it, it does have a few benefits, that will make this season a bit more tolerable and maybe even fun.

  • Curling up with a good book under thick blankets is one of my favorite things to do. There’s just something about being wrapped up in warm blankets that makes winter a little less awful.  For those bookworms (like myself), it is also an excuse to stay inside and catch up with your reading list.

  • Hot beverages

Having 5 cups of coffee or more per day and nobody can judge you, because it is after all winter, don’t overdo it though, 5 cups or more is probably not a healthy dose of caffeine.

  • Winter fashion and color combinations

This is the time of the year where some of my favorite fashion items make an appearance – beanies, scarves, boots, crazy cozy socks, you name it!

  • Binge watching series and movies

Let’s face it, we all laze around during winter (or at least I do) and winter simply makes us feel okay to binge watch series and not feel at all guilty about it, because what else are we supposed to do with our time when it’s cold outside?

  • Soups

Nothing beats the cold weather than a nice bowl of warm soup…yum!

  • Cuddle time

With it being winter there isn’t always much to do so you can enjoy some cuddle time with your loved one, that is if you’re lucky enough to have one) – Dear future husband now would be the perfect time to make your appearance!

  • Getting away with not shaving your legs

  • Summer bodies are made in winter or so they say.  I would not be able to confirm this, since most of my winters have been spend hiding under blankets and avoiding any physical activity at all costs, but I think I’m finally ready to try this theory out.

I’m going to try and embrace winter this year, hope you are too…until next time!

xoxo Lilanie
