Summer Essentials

Summer Essentials

Hello beautiful people, today I bring you some of the summer essentials that I cannot go without during the summer months and which you will most definitely need as well to survive the warmer months.

  • Sunscreen

IMG_3248

This item is definitely the most essential item on this list and which hopefully all of you own already, if you don’t want to end up looking like a red tomato or having a very painful sunburn experience.  As the ozone layer is depleting, it is important to protect your body from the sun’s harmful rays, which sunscreen helps to do, by blocking the harmful rays from penetrating the skin and triggering skin disorders.  Most sunscreens or sunblock are now also waterproof, which means that you can enjoy yourself in the water without worrying about being burned by the sun.

  • Makeup with SPF

IMG_3255

A lot of makeup comes with the added SPF these days and I highly recommend picking up one of these babies.  When you’re out and about in the sun all day, you definitely want not only your body, but your face protected as well.  I love the SPF in the makeup idea, as you can still wear your makeup, while at the same time protecting your skin, because I am definitely not a fan of rubbing sunscreen onto my face and looking like Casper the ghost.

  • Waterproof Mascara

IMG_3259

When its summer it’s a given that you are going to be sweating, which is why waterproof mascara should be your best friend during the summer months.  It can be used not only when you go to the pool or beach, but also just wearing it as part of your summer makeup.  The waterproof mascara will ensure that you do not have mascara running everywhere and prevent smudging which usually creates darker areas and ultimately makes you look like you belong to some type of raccoon species.

  • Bright Nail polish

IMG_3264

I absolutely love bright nail colors for summer because we’re finally out of the dark gloomy winter months and adding that pop of color to your toes or nails really makes a difference in your mood as well.

  • Setting Powder

IMG_3268

This is definitely one of those items that I keep with me at all times during summer, because my skin does become oily and sweaty during summer.  The setting powder helps with absorbing excess oils and helps to set your foundation in place and prevent it from sliding off your face during the warmer months.

  • Face Masks

IMG_2846

Face masks are an every season essential, but important especially during summer.  Due to the warm weather your skin is more prone to become oily and sweaty resulting in break outs, which can be minimized with the help of face masks.

  • Sunglasses

IMG_3282

Not only will these make you look hella stylish, but will protect your eyes from the sun, especially if you have very sensitive eyes like myself.

  • Lip Balm

Skin on your lips is actually much thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face and therefore much more vulnerable to damage by the harmful UV rays.  It is therefore important to not only protect your body, but your lips as well.  These days you can find lip balms and lipsticks that also have the added SPF to ensure that your lips are protected at all times.

But that is it for this post, let me know in the comments what your summer essentials are.

Until next time!

xoxo Lilanie

Glowy Spring Makeup Look

We are officially in the last month of spring here in Namibia and I’m excited for summer and December, as it is my birthday month and Christmas (YAY!!) This means that I can finally start playing Christmas music without being judged (I love my Christmas carols okay).  I have therefore decided to do a final spring makeup look, which can definitely be used for summer as well.

The eye makeup

I started off by priming my eyes with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.

Next, I filled in my eyebrows with the Catrice Eye Brow Stylist Pencil in the shade Date with Ash-ton.

I then applied the LA Girl Concealer all over my eyelid to prep my eyes and then set the concealer with some translucent powder.

I then applied this shimmery pink color from the SMOKY Palette all over my eyelid.

Next, I went in with this brown color from the HD Nude Palette and applied this in my crease and extended it upwards.

Also from the HD Nude Palette I applied this even darker brown color also into my crease and extending it upwards for a little more definition.

I then applied this plum brown color from the ELF Little Black Beauty Book (Warm Edition) Palette onto the outer corner of my eyelid.

Next, I applied this orangey bronze color from the HD Nude Palette all over my eyelid(which is the third color in the palette that can be seen in the picture below) I then reapplied some of that shimmery pink color I used in the beginning also over my eyelid to soften down the orangey color.

I then applied the Essence Volume Stylist Curl and Hold Mascara to my top lashes.

After I finished my face makeup, I went back to my eyes and just put a bit of the two brown shades under my lash line and applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara to my bottom lashes as well.

I then also applied this shimmery white color to the inner corners of my eyes, as well as my brow bone.

The Face Makeup

I started off by priming my face with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.

I then applied my foundation and used the Rimmel 25 HR Lasting Finish Foundation in the shade Medium Beige.

I then went in with my concealer and used the LA Girl Pro Concealer in the shade Creamy Beige.

To set my foundation I used the Yardley Absolute Translucent Loose Powder.

I then did my contour with the Absolute New York Pro Contour Palette and used the Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder in the shade Light Infusion as my highlighter. (Don’t be shy with the highlighter as this is a glowy makeup look)

For blush I used the Jordana Blush Powder in the shade Rose Silk.

On my lips I used the Avon Color Trend Lip Gloss in the shade Pucker.

And that concludes this makeup look and the spring makeup series.  I will still try to get some spring inspired outfit ideas up on the blog before spring is officially over so be on the lookout for that.

I really hope you enjoyed this post…until next time!

3 Face Masks Review

Hello there beautiful people, I have been MIA for quite some time, but I’m officially back now that exams are done – can I get a WHOOP WHOOP?! For today’s post I thought I would give you my review on three different face masks that I have been trying out, namely the Young Solutions Triple Take 3 in 1 Cleanser, Scrub and Mask, the Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 – in – 1 Face Wash & Mask and the Himalaya Herbals Almond and Cucumber Peel – off Mask.

IMG_2833

Young Solutions Triple Take 3 – in – 1 Cleanser, Scrub, Mask

This mask contains purifying charcoal and can cleanse the skin in three ways. It can be used as a daily wash to clear away dirt, as a scrub to remove excess oils and as a mask to deep clean pores.  Charcoal is said to draw out bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne.  I usually use this as a mask and have never tried to use it as a cleanser or scrub, mostly because of the consistency which is a bit runny, which I don’t think will work out well as a cleanser or scrub.  I do however love this as a mask, because it’s affordable (N$ 73.95 at clicks), it makes my skin feel great and it does what it says it’s supposed to do, which is definitely the most important elements I look for in products.  It definitely makes my skin feel refreshed, clean and soft and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good, affordable charcoal mask.  It does also say to leave it on for 10 minutes, but I usually leave it on until it dries before washing it off.  Also, can we just take a minute to appreciate the packaging, I love red and black combos and this packaging is absolutely beautiful!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 – in – 1 Face Wash & Mask

This next mask can be used as a face wash to help reduce spots and as a mask to unclog pores and purify deep down.  It is said to remove impurities and clear spots giving you skin that looks twice as clear.  I also just use this as a mask and have actually tried using this one as a face wash, but did not really enjoy using it as a face wash, simply because it does have a thick consistency, which I am not a fan of for a face wash, but I absolutely love this as a mask.  It does also have a very pleasant fragrance, which is definitely an added bonus.  On applying this, you will feel a tingly sensation (which I feel is always a good thing, because I just feel like it is busy working its magic) and the instructions say to leave it on for 5 mins, but as I previously mentioned, I usually leave on masks until they are completely dry and this one dries down to a matte finish.  This product makes my skin feel soft, super refreshed and clean and therefore I highly recommend this product.  You can find it at Clicks for N$ 116.

IMG_2842

Himalaya Herbals Almond and Cucumber Peel – off Mask

I feel like all the products I usually review or talk about are always products I like, but I have actually found a product I’m not a huge fan of.  The mask is said to unclog pores, peel away blemishes and should leave you with healthy, firm and glowing skin.  The almond in the product is said to nourish, soothe and soften the skin.  The Cucumber tones your facial skin and provides a cooling effect, while the Pineapple removes impurities and dead cells and firms up the skin.  The Indian Gooseberry is also said to have cleansing and antioxidant properties.  I do feel that the mask does everything it says it’s supposed to do, as my skin does feel good after using it.  The problem does however come in with the consistency of the product, which when it dries feels like a thin layer of glue on your face.  This definitely took me back to my younger days when we would apply glue to our hands and peel it off.  This felt exactly like that only worse. It is super hard to get off, as you firstly struggle to find a place to start peeling from and the peeling process itself is just horrible, as it does not go off with a few peels, you literally have to scratch this off your face.  Even though it does leave your skin feeling good, I do not want to stress about the removal process of a mask and therefore would not recommend using this product.

But that is it for this post; it feels good to be back again. I really hope you liked this post!

Until next time!

Pretty Spring Makeup Look

Pretty Spring Makeup Look

I am back with another spring makeup look.  I love this look, because it’s simple to do, fun, as well as colorful with the pop of color on the lips.  I also just love the color combo.

The first part of this post will cover the eye makeup, followed by the face makeup.  I used the SMOKY palette to create this look.

Spring Glam Makeup Look

Today’s makeup look, as you might already have seen by the title is a spring makeup look.  I love this look, because it is just so darn pretty and I think it works really well with brown eyes, there’s just something about it that makes my eyes pop.  Also, I know I haven’t been posting regularly, but as previously mentioned, school has been keeping me busy and the torture will be ending in November when I’m done with my exams.  I will however try to post as much as I possibly can, but without further ado, here is how you can get this pretty makeup look.

For this look I used the HD Nude Palette and it’s called Shades of Nude 03.

IMG_9335

I usually start with my eye makeup first, therefore the first part will consist of the eye makeup look and the second part will cover the full face makeup.

The Eye Makeup

  • I started off by filling in my eyebrows with the Smudge Brow Pencil in the shade Light Brown.
  • I then applied the LA Girl Concealer all over my eyelid to prep my eyes and then set the concealer with some translucent powder.
  • I started off by applying this nude color all over my eyelid as my transition color.
  • I then went over that with this darker pinkish color and focused in the crease as well as extending it upwards.
  • I then applied this brown shade on the outer corners of my eyes.
  • I then went in with an even darker brown and this one has a little bit of a shimmer to it. I also focused this on the outer corners of my eyes.
  • For my eyelids I used this shimmery color and also just placed some of it on the inner corners of my eyes.
  • I then applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara to my top lashes.
  • After I finished my face makeup, I went back to my eyes and just put a bit of the two brown shades under my lash line and applied mascara to my bottom lashes as well.

The Face Makeup

  1. I started off by priming my face with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.
  2. I then applied my foundation and used the L’Oréal True Match Foundation in the shade Sand.
  3. I then went in with my concealer and used the LA Girl Pro Conceal Concealer in the shade Creamy Beige.
  4. To set my foundation I used the Yardley Absolute Translucent Loose Powder.
  5. I then did my contour with the Absolute New York Pro Contour Palette and used the Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder in the shade Light Infusion as my highlighter.
  6. For blush I used the Jordana Blush Powder in the shade Rose Silk.

For my lips I used the LA Colors Lip Liner in this pink shade and topped it off with the Avon Pink Lip Gloss in the shade Rose Splash.
