Xmas Gift Ideas for HER

It’s that time of the year again, where struggling to find gifts is probably at the top of your stress list, because buying gifts for your loved ones can be a challenging task.  Stop stressing immediately though, because your girl has got you covered (never fear when Lilanie is near!) I’ve compiled a list of items that you can gift that special woman in your life this festive season, whether it be your mother, an aunt, sister, girlfriend or even your best friend.  I do hope you get some ideas from this list and that this post will be super helpful in making your Christmas shopping a little bit easier this festive season.

  • Candles

Most girls love anything that smells good and that includes scented candles.  Not only do you find some that smell amazing, but some also have a calming effect and helps to relax you after a stressful day, which is why she will definitely appreciate scented candles as a gift.

  • Makeup Sets

A girl can NEVER have too much makeup, so if she is obsessed with makeup you can get her a makeup set.  They usually come in cute packages, so all you really need to do is wrap it up or put it in a gift bag and you’re good to go.

  • Books

Let’s face it books can be expensive, so  if she’s a book nerd, definitely hit up your nearest bookshop and buy her a book that she’s been meaning to buy herself or the latest book in her favorite book series collection.  She will definitely be eternally grateful.  If you do not know which book to get her, a book voucher will also suffice and that way you don’t end up buying a book that she hates.

  • Bubble Bath Sets

As I’ve mentioned before most girls love anything that smells good and that includes bubble bath sets.  We’re at the end of the year and that means she probably wants to de-stress.  A bubble bath set is a gift that every stressed out person will definitely appreciate.

  • Spa / Nail Day

Every girl loves to be pampered every once in a while and booking a spa day or a manicure / pedicure will definitely be highly appreciated.

  • Jewelry

There is simply something about jewelry that makes it sentimental and it can also be a timeless piece, as it can be cared for and enjoyed for quite some time, which makes this the perfect gift to give to a loved one.  It’s also suitable no matter what your relationship with the other person is (getting matching necklaces for you and your friend, getting your girlfriend a pretty bracelet or getting that gorgeous pair of earrings your mother hasn’t stopped talking about since the beginning of the year)

  • Handbag

Handbags are another of those items that a girl can never have too many of; different occasions require different handbags after all.

  • Perfume

Get her, her favorite perfume or one that she has been dying to get herself and she will love you forever!

But that is it for this post, hope you found it useful during your Christmas shopping.

Until next time!

xoxo Lilanie

Liebster Award

I’ve been MIA again and it’s probably going to keep on happening until this semester of Uni is over, because it has just been taking over my life.  I will however try to post whenever I get a chance.  I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award by the gorgeous Fadwa from Helloworldbreakoutgirl, a beauty, fashion, travel and lifestyle blogger hailing from Cape Town, South Africa.  Do check out her blog, it’s pretty awesome!

Rules of the award:

  • The nominated blogger must acknowledge who has nominated them and also share their links.
  • Answer the 11 questions that they have been asked.
  • Nominate 11 more bloggers whose blog they recommend.
  • Ask 11 questions that they would like those bloggers to answer.
  • Let the bloggers they nominated know that they’ve been nominated.

The Questions:

What make-up hacks changed your life?

Highlighting the inner corners of my eyes has been a lifesaver for those days you feel and look like a zombie.  It helps to open up the eyes and makes the eyes pop.

What inspired you to start blogging?

As cliché as it might sound, I started my blog as a creative outlet, I love being creative and blogging allows me to do exactly that.  The whole process of coming up with new blog posts and being able to share it with others is pretty exciting.

What is your number one Holy Grail makeup item?

At the moment it is the Essence Eyelash Princess Mascara.

Who is your favorite beauty YouTuber?

I have more than one actually, at the moment my favorites include Tess Christine and Kalyn Nicholson.

Any tips on perfecting a cut crease?

I haven’t quite perfected the cut crease just yet, but as soon as I do, you will be the first to hear about it.

What do you feel is the number one mistake newbie bloggers make?

I’m still a newbie blogger myself, seeing that I only started my blog about 4 months ago, but I do feel that when starting out one always tends to compare oneself with other more established bloggers, which I feel is the most common mistake not only newbie bloggers make, but bloggers who have been in the game a while as well.  My advice would be to concentrate on your own blogging journey and remember why you started blogging in the first place, even though it may be hard sometimes to avoid.

Any tips for taking the perfect flat lay picture for beauty reviews?

Pinterest is definitely your friend when trying to get inspiration for flat lay pictures; I also find that adding flowers to flat lay pictures instantly makes it look so much better and prettier.

How long does your daily make-up routine take?

I’d say about 30 minutes, but it also depends on the look I’m going for.  I usually also do it in less time if I’m in a rush.

Unicorn or Mermaid?

What is the number one lesson blogging has taught you?

I’m still in the beginning stages of my blogging journey, but will definitely share during the later stage.

What would you choose in a five product only make up look?

Foundation, lipstick/lip gloss, mascara, eyebrow pencil and a translucent powder

I know that this bends the rules a little bit, but I nominate every one that has not yet been nominated to do the Liebster Award.

My questions are:

  1. What are three words that best describe you?
  2. What is your favorite fashion item at the moment?
  3. What TV series are you currently obsessed with?
  4. Who is your favorite Instagrammer?
  5. Any mantras you live by?
  6. What is your biggest fear?
  7. What are 5 items you simply cannot live without?
  8. Where is the one place you really want to travel to?
  9. How would you describe your fashion style?
  10. What is your favorite spring / summer perfume?
  11. What are your favorite beauty items at the moment?

I really hope you got to know me a little better through the questions answered and that you enjoyed this post.

Thank you for stopping by…until next time!

Old School Glam Prom Makeup Look

This is my third and final prom inspired look and this is definitely my favorite out of the three looks that I created.  I like to call this the old school glam look, mostly because of the red lips.  This makeup look is therefore for my girls that likes a bold lip.   I really hope this little prom series on my blog has been useful in helping you make your day extra special.  I do have a prom tips and tricks post, as well as two other prom inspired makeup looks on the blog, so be sure to check those out as well.  I kept my face makeup the same, so I did not include it in this post, but you can check it out here.

The eye makeup

For this look I used the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette.

  • I started off by applying my concealer all over my eyelid, just to give it an even color.
  •  I then applied a beige color all over my eyelid, just to set the concealer.
  • I then went in with this light brown shade and applied it in the crease and worked it towards the inner corner, as well as the outer corner of my eyelid.
  • Next I applied a darker brown color and again applied it in the crease as well as the inner and outer corners of my eyelid.
  • I then took this plum color and applied it to the same areas.  You also just want to make sure to blend everything out as you apply it.
  • I then went in with this copper color and also applied it to the same areas.  This time I focused more towards the center of the eyelid.
  • To finish the look I applied a little bit of this shimmery color on the center of my eyelid and simply used my finger to dab it on the eyelid.
  • I then applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara to my top and bottom lashes and took the darker brown shade and placed that under my lash line.

The gorgeous red color on my lips is the Wet n Wild lipstick Cherry Frost Silk Finish Lipstick.

This is the finished makeup look:

And that concludes this makeup look, as well as the little prom series I have been going on, on my blog.  I might do it again next year and include some hairstyles as well. Do let me know if that is something you would be interested in seeing.

Thank you so much for stopping by…until next time!

Soft and Elegant Prom Makeup Look

I am back with another prom makeup look and this time around I went for a softer look.  This is for my girls that don’t want too much going on, on the eyes, but still want a bit of glitter, because it is after all prom – the time to get all glitzy and glamour (even if it is just a little bit).  I did a previous post on tips and tricks for prom, so if you haven’t already, be sure to go check it out here.  I did not include the face makeup this time around, because it is the same routine as in my previous prom makeup post which you can find here.

The eye makeup

For this look I used the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette.

  • I started off by applying some of the Essence Stay Natural Concealer as a base to ensure the makeup stays and to have an even tone over the eyelid.
  • I then applied a beige color all over my lid just to set the concealer.
  • Next I applied this light brown shade all over my lid and focused it on the outer corner of my eye and took it up to my crease, as well as the inner corners of my eyes. Be sure to blend this in to make sure the color is diffused.
  • I then went in with a darker brown color and this I applied on the same areas as the light brown shade.
  • To add more definition I added this black color also on the same areas and blended everything together.
  • I finished off the look by applying this shimmery color on the eyelid.
  • I then applied the Essence Lash Princess Mascara (I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I am going to say it again, I LOVE this mascara.) You can absolutely add some false eyelashes; I decided to just add the mascara.

For my lips I used the Essence Long lasting Lipstick in the shade Barely There.

And this is the finished makeup look:

I really hope you have enjoyed this post; I had fun creating this makeup look.

But that is it for this post…until next time!

Purple Smokey Eye Prom Makeup Look

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted something and I apologize! I have been super busy with assignments. You might have also noticed that I did not put up a July Favorites post and that is because I will be combining my July and August favorites in one post. Today’s post will be a prom inspired makeup look, which for those of you who are past the prom stage can use it for a fancy outing or special event.  I love this look, because it is simple to do and it works very well with brown eyes.  Be sure to check out my previous post as well on my tips for Prom here  As always the first part will consist of the face makeup and the second part will cover the eye makeup.

  1. So I started off by priming my face with the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser.
  2. I then applied my concealer, I find that applying it before the foundation works better to cover up my blemishes and I used the Essence Stay Natural Concealer in the shade Soft Beige. I just apply this under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, on my forehead and on any blemishes I have.
  3. I then applied my foundation and used the L’Oréal True Match Foundation in the shade Sand. I love this foundation, because it is very lightweight.  You also want to make sure not to use a foundation that has a SPF in it, because it usually creates flashback in photos.
  4. To set my foundation I used the Yardley Absolute Translucent Loose Powder.
  5. I then did my contour with the Absolute New York Pro Contour Palette and used the same palette to highlight my face.
  6. To finish off the look, I went in with the Jordana Blush Powder in the shade Rose Silk.

The Eye Makeup

To create this look, I used the SMOKY Palette, the ELF Little Black Book (Warm Edition) Palette and the Essence Quattro (Denim 4.0) Eye shadow Palette.

  • I started off by filling in my eyebrows with the Smudge Brow Pencil in the shade Light Brown.
  • I used this brown color from the ELF Palette as a base color and placed it all over my eyelid.
  • I then used this purple shade from the Essence Palette and placed this on the outer corner of my eyelids.

In the inner corner of my eyelid I used this shimmery silver color from the SMOKY Palette and focused it towards the center of my eyelid.

I then used the purple color from the Essence Palette and placed it under my lower lash line and the silver color from the SMOKY Palette towards the inner corner of my eye.

For mascara I used the Essence Lash Princess Mascara. I did not apply any false lashes, but that is totally optional, I think it would look great with this look as well.

For lips I used NYC Lipstick in the shade Petal and topped it off with the Essence XXXL Lip Gloss in the shade True Love and I  did not want to go too dark with the lips, since the eyes are already dramatic, but this is totally optional as well.

And this is the finished look:

But that is it for this post, if you do decide to try out this look feel free to tag me in your pictures on Instagram here

Until next time!
